Federico Goudie on Brazil as Key Market – 'It just happens that Miami is a smart place to be'
Foley & Lardner LLP partner Federico Goudie shared insight on the growing importance of Brazil to the U.S. legal market in Daily Business Review, identifying Miami as a key place to be for firms working with Brazilian clients and Latin American clients more broadly.
Goudie highlighted Brazil as an important market for Foley and how its connection to Miami continues to expand alongside Foley’s presence in the city. “There’s certainly some New York firms that don’t feel the need to be in Miami at this point, and they think the client will come to them,” Goudie said. “Clients are really consumers of law firms, rather than geographic presence. It just happens that Miami is a smart place to be.”
In his practice, Goudie noted Brazilian clients in the financial services, investment, and technology sectors have demonstrated greater interest in Miami recently. While tech enthusiasm has shifted slightly back to Silicon Valley, Goudie said enthusiasm around Miami’s potential in the financial sector remains strong.
“More and more firms are trying to set up shop in Brazil,” Goudie added. “But it’s a complex process.”
