John R. Landis is a partner in Foley & Lardner’s Chicago office and is a member of the firm’s Business Litigation & Dispute Resolution Practice Group, Sports Industry Team, Insurance & Reinsurance Industry Team, and Food & Beverage Industry Team.
John’s practice includes advising and representing his clients in commercial litigation matters, governmental regulatory and enforcement proceedings, internal corporate investigations, and general business matters, including corporate governance, compliance, and risk management.
John’s clients include international financial services companies, insurance brokerage firms, insurance companies, municipal finance firms, and broker-dealers.
Prior to joining Foley, John served as a law clerk to the Honorable James Rosenbaum (United States District Court, District of Minnesota) and practiced with Cravath, Swaine & Moore in New York City.
Awards and Recognition
In 2010 and 2011, John was named a BTI Client Service All-Star, an elite group of attorneys nominated solely and exclusively by clients in BTI’s independent study as delivering the absolute best in client service. He was selected for inclusion in the 2009 Illinois Super Lawyers® list* and has also been selected by his peers for inclusion in The Best Lawyers in America© in the field of Insurance Law (2022-2024).
Community Involvement
John was a member of the legal team for the Chicago 2016 Olympic and Paralympic bid. He was also appointed to the United States Olympic Committee’s Safe Sport Legal Referral Network. John represents and works with several civic and non-profit organizations, including The Investigative Project on Race & Equity, Kohl Children’s Museum of Greater Chicago, Great Lakes Adaptive Sports Association, and Scout Aquatics Swim Club.
