Peter N. Wang is one of the firm’s senior trial lawyers with substantial experience in a wide variety of litigation areas. He served as managing partner of the New York City office from 2004-2022 and is a former member of the firm’s national Management Committee. He is a partner in the firm’s Business Litigation & Dispute Resolution, Construction, Securities Enforcement & Litigation, and IP Litigation Practices, as well as the Insurance & Reinsurance Industry Team.
Peter was a founding partner of another firm before the firm joined Foley in July 2004. From 1973-1974, Peter served as a law clerk to the Hon. Milton Pollack, United States District Judge, Southern District of New York.
Peter Wang has been a commercial litigator and trial lawyer for his entire career and has been recognized in a Super Lawyer Magazine profile as one of the leading trial lawyers in New York. Over the course of his career, he has tried numerous commercial cases to verdict before juries and judges, as well as conducted many fully litigated arbitration proceedings. In 2003, he was elected as a Fellow of the International Academy of Trial Lawyers, an organization limited to 500 trial lawyers world-wide who have been nominated and selected based solely on the recommendations of adversaries, colleagues and judges, and he has been a member of the IATL ever since. Additionally, Peter has been recognized as a “Super Lawyer” in New York and as a “Best Lawyer” every year since the inception of those rankings, and he has also been a frequent speaker before the Federal Bar Council, the New York State Bar Association, and other groups on topics related to trial practice.
Peter has tried cases in a variety of disciplines, including breach of contract, construction, intellectual property, securities, trade secrets, real estate disputes, and other matters. Among his notable trial achievements are his groundbreaking verdict in an eight-week federal jury trial in the Southern District of New York involving the construction of the Marriott Hotel in Times Square, NY, in which Peter was able to secure a verdict on behalf of his clients (the Owner, General Contractor, and Architect) of over $80 million against the steel subcontractor and fabricator for construction delays and associated damages. At the time, the verdict was the largest jury verdict in a commercial breach of contract case in the Southern District. Peter also won a $32 million jury verdict in Connecticut State Court against Dress Barn in connection with breach of contract and unfair trade practices. Peter has tried cases all over the country, including in Texas, Washington, Massachusetts, and New Jersey. Most recently, in December 2023, Peter and his team tried a multimillion-dollar rent abatement dispute (arising out of the COVID crisis) in State Court in New York on behalf of a large law firm in New York. His arbitration experience is also broad-based, and Peter has been selected as an arbitrator on cases in Georgia, New York, and elsewhere.
